About the Funk

Milk the Funk (MTF) began as a dedicated Facebook group on March 6, 2013, designed to bridge the gap between hobbyist homebrewing and advanced fermentation science. What started as a niche discussion hub for "funky" topics has evolved into the global communal authority on alternative yeast and bacteria.

Our Mission

We provide a science-forward, peer-reviewed narrative on the complex biochemistry of wild ales, mixed-fermentation, and alternative brewing techniques. MTF is built on the philosophy that transparency and technical accuracy elevate the entire industry—from the garage homebrewer to the commercial production facility.

The Data Repository

Our primary resource, the MTF Wiki, offers exhaustive documentation on wild organisms like Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus. Beyond microbiology, we provide deep-dives into wood aging, kettle souring, and brewery bios of those pushing the boundaries of what beer, wine, mead, and cider can be.

The Podcast

Through Milk the Funk “The Podcast,” we facilitate direct conversations with the experts and innovators of the field. Our focus remains strictly on the science, troubleshooting, and the evolution of fermentation techniques.
