''Lactobacillus'' species can be isolated on agar plates by using a selective media called Rogosa SL. Rogosa SL agar contains ammonium citrate, sodium acetate, a relatively low pH, and acetic acid, which select for ''Lactobacillus'' while inhibiting mold and other bacteria. This medium will not inhibit yeast on its own, however. If inhibiting yeast is a requirement then add 10 mg/L cycloheximide to inhibit most yeast <ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20160508021144/http://basementbrewlab.com/lab/lab-media/sla/ Rogosa SL Agar (Lactobacillus).
